Welcome Sequanota Story Summer Camp Staff |
Junior High Wilderness Skills School’s out, adventure time is in! We invite junior high campers who like a little adventure challenge during their week at camp. Rock-climbing, outdoor cooking, camps-outs, zip-lining, challenge courses, late-night games and much more will be available to experience. Sign up to canoe with your new and old friends in the afternoon and roast marshmallows at sunset until camp-fire starts. You will learn about our deep connection with nature and ways to take care of God’s creation through small group talks and outdoor worships. We find that campers who participate in Sequanota outdoor adventure programs enjoy conquering the variety of challenges and having time to discuss faith life with their friends. Have a blast exploring the rich environment while learning safe, practical wilderness tips from the outdoor-savvy Sequanota staff.
Confirmation Camp In the process of confirmation? Want to make it fun? Your confirmation group can learn in Sequanota's environment with lively pastors, and cool staff with tons of activities on the side. Groups attending this session will get the chance to experience God's word through interactive sessions led by church leaders for part of the day and also venture to the most exciting places in Sequanota for outdoor adventures, swimming, crafts and games. Of course, we will host the Sequanota Olympics between cabins and pastors! Lasting friendships form, and teens learn the joy of being bold and confident in faith life. Groups grow closer and take many memories back to church as they live out the Word. Those interested in bringing any size group of confirmation students to camp, large or small, should contact the Sequanota office. Leaders will be invited to a planning meeting in May where they can talk with Sequanota staff about the week.
Crew Camp Work hard, play hard during your CREW week! We specialize in giving teens the experiences that will shape their lives and help them to realize the gifts within them. During the session, campers will be responsible for helping in areas of camp such as kitchen duties, craft-leading, small maintenance tasks, helping at the pool and other light service projects with plenty of time for fun in the traditional camp program. There are many opportunities to lead others, discuss faith and discover new gifts by being a member of the Sequanota Crew for a week.
Junior High Outdoor Adventure A step up in the wilderness program. Conquer outdoor challenges with your cabin mates like geo-caching hikes, outpost sleep-outs, cookouts and rock-climbing at Sequanota. The adventure lasts from the first night until the very end of camp!
Horseback Riding Camp More horseback riding in 2011! Elementary and Jr. High campers can learn the basics of riding a horse and build on their existing skills. We will spend part of each day at the stables getting acquainted with these magnificent creatures and also spend time at Sequanota enjoying all the favorite activities. Great for beginners! Please bring plenty of pairs of long pants and good riding boots if you wish to join us this week. Riding instruction and trail rides are supervised by professionals.
Senior High Outdoor Adventure Explore parts of Sequanota unknown to many! This thrilling week takes a senior high camper on an adventurous tour of the Laurel Highlands in addition to enjoying the worshipful scene at camp. Each day offers a new challenge for you and your cabin mates, so be ready to have some fun! Battling whitewater, extreme hikes, maneuvering rock faces, camping out, canoe races and more are part of the week. Campers will learn a lot about safe, responsible adventuring for their lives and take part in creative outdoor Bible studies and worships. We will also en-joy regular camp activities, such as crafting, swimming and campfires.
Elementary and Junior High Fishing Camp Fishing camp is back by popular demand in 2011. Spend each day learning about bait to use, fish identification, where to fish, how to hook and land a fish, and much more as we explore fishing spots in the Laurel Highlands. Whether you have fished before or are trying it for the first time, our leaders will help you discover responsible ways to catch the big ones! Traditional Sequanota activities are a part of each day, and fun lasts the whole week long. Campers are to bring fishing poles (camp does have some poles), fishing tackle (hooks will be de-barbed before use), one small to moderate size tackle box, artificial bait (if you like), and an eagerness to catch fish. For safety reasons we do not permit the use of any size waders. Live bait will be provided. Grab you pole and come to camp.
Guitar Camp Want to learn to play guitar or become better? You are invited to take part in camp’s rockin’ music scene. Beginners and intermediate guitar players should bring an acoustic guitar and a set of extra strings, along with a few picks. Opportunities to play with staff at campfire and worship are present throughout the week, helping to encourage performance confidence. Campers will have skills sessions throughout the day with leaders and staff who are passionate about teaching music and also enjoy all the other activities that make camp fun like swimming and adventure activities.
Dance Camp Sequanota is proud to offer a fun, activity-based dance camp taught by a professional. We will explore appropriate dance styles for children and youth of all ages each day as the dining hall is transformed into a studio. Dance lessons before camp are NOT needed to attend. This program is designed for BOTH girls and boys. Learn a variety of moves to great music, even swing dancing! Your favorite camp activities will be part of each day in addition to dancing. Get ready to move, laugh and learn with Sherrie Lynn, our dance instructor. Staff-in-Training Leadership-in-Training This program prepares campers who have completed 9 th grade -12th grade for school and community leadership opportunities in a fun and productive form. Campers will participate in adventure activities including intermediate and advanced challenge courses and they will discuss their leadership styles and other topics in small groups. This group will help guide the younger children at camp during parts of each day and get REAL experience in working with others. Sequanota Staff will be supervising the event, sharing knowledge about responsibility. They will discuss the working world after high school as well as how to record information for a resume. The group will focus on two main on-site service projects in our time together. Other camp activities will include swimming, crafting, spiritual discussion and chapel hikes, singing or performing music, rock-climbing and use of the zip-line. American Red Cross CPR certification or re-certification course will also be available.
Family Camp You asked. We listened! Family camp is shaped by family activity requests and Sequanota traditions. Advanced crafts, geo-caching and in-depth Bible studies for adults are just a few reasons to join us for a week of fun. This is the perfect chance to spend quality time relaxing and exploring with your family as you lodge in newly upgraded cabins or our comfortable conference center during your stay. Participate in as many programmed activities as you wish, including extended pool time and skill crafts. Feel free to take a day off for prayer and reflections as well! Join us for low or high intensity hikes, fun crafts, zip line, rock-climbing, many games, outdoor worship and much more. The attentive staff will provide excellent service from early each morning until late in the evening during the week and nurture a safe and exciting environment for all. Families of any shape and size are invited to this week where you can try new adventures without all of the extra costs.
55 & Up Camp Pastor Bob and Pam Way will be back leading the program for this half-week experience, leading you through meaningful Bible studies, traditional hymn sings and great crafts. Each day, there will be options for low-mid intensity activities such as hiking, nature watches, swimming, biking, off-site trips to local spots and time to simply reflect. We hope to see some new faces joining this year and invite any group, couple or individuals age 55 and up to experience tons of fun in a beautiful setting. Come back to Camp!
